Catoosa Alcohol Prevention Initiative holds second town hall meeting

The Catoosa Alcohol Prevention (CAP) Initiative’s second town hall meeting was held at Tiger Creek Elementary School June 22.

Participants included community leaders, parents, law enforcement officers from Catoosa County, Ringgold and Fort Oglethorpe, the National Guard, local government officials, emergency medical service personnel, researchers, behavioral health and public health professionals in the fields of epidemiology and social research, academic and medical professionals, and program evaluators.

The Georgia SPF SIG, which was awarded the grant money, is a project that focuses on two priorities: (1) to reduce the rate of alcohol-related traffic crashes and deaths among youth and adults and (2) to reduce the incidence of arrests among youth due to the possession of alcohol products in high-need and/or high-contributor counties in Georgia.

Catoosa County qualified in both priorities, but chose to focus on the second priority to redu ce the incidence of arrests among youth due to the possession of alcohol.

Through the Catoosa Family Collaborative, the CAP Initiative will be moving forward, towards capacity building, once the assessment stage is completed.
